It seems that the numbers of pets being brought along on camping trips is increasing rapidly. The pets are primarily dogs, but have included pigs, cats, rabbits, monkeys, parrots, frogs, lightning bugs, snakes, fish, and yes, even cock-roaches. In the past we have simply said that "pets are welcome as long as they are on a leash". Due to pressures from people with allergies, and the related cleaning problems, we do not allow pets of any kind in the cabins and rental units.
We had five "Dog bite" incidents in 2003, and 2004. All involved small children and either a Rott, Doberman, or Pit-Bull. All the dogs were eventually 'put down'. The owners all described their dogs as gentle, never bit any one before. The problem is that the dogs are in a strange place, and you never know when a child quite innocently will surprise the dog.
Frankly, this is a campground with a lot of kids. If you feel the need for a 'watch dog', you shouldn't be here. Please leave the Rottweiler, Doberman Pincer, and Pit-Bull with a friend or at a kennel.
Since its enforcement, customers appreciate that we haven't had any serious dog issues, so it has become a policy that will continue indefinitely.
We have a lot of animals ourselves, and understand that you will want to bring some along. All we ask is that you take care of them, keep them on a leash, keep them happy, don't leave them alone, and don't let them bother the other campers.
If it is hot and your dog loves to swim, may we suggest the upper small pond for this, not the public swimming areas, please.
